Privacy Policy

Last updated 14 September 2026

Sakina has no accounts and no server of its own. Your prayer log, your streaks, your excused days, the list of apps you chose to block, your Qur'an progress and your location all stay on your iPhone. We cannot read any of it, because it is never sent to us.

Who we are

Sakina is made by Devjoy Ltd, a company registered in the United Kingdom. For anything in this policy, write to sakina@devjoy.agency. For UK GDPR purposes Devjoy Ltd is the data controller.

What stays on your device

All of the following is stored only on your iPhone, in the app's own storage. It is not sent to us, not backed up to any server we run, and not shared with anyone:

WhatWhy it exists
Your prayer log — which prayers you marked, and whether on time or lateStreaks, your 5/5 tracker and your on-time rate
Excused days (ḥayḍ / nifās)So the app stops asking, and your streaks are protected
The apps you chose to blockApplying the lock at prayer time
Qur'an reading progress and bookmarksResuming where you left off, and khatm progress
Your settings — calculation method, Asr madhab, notification choicesComputing your prayer times the way you want them
Your locationComputing prayer times and the Qibla direction

Excused days deserve a specific promise

Whether you are menstruating or in postpartum bleeding is health information, and under UK and EU law it is a special category of personal data. Sakina keeps it on your device only. It is never synced, never sent to us, never included in analytics, and never used for anything except pausing the prayer prompts and protecting your streak. There is no cycle tracking, no prediction and no health-data integration of any kind.

Your location

Prayer times and the Qibla are calculated on your iPhone, from your coordinates, using an open-source astronomical library bundled inside the app. Your coordinates are not transmitted to us or to anyone else. You can decline location access and set your city by hand instead.

The apps you block

Sakina uses Apple's Screen Time framework (Family Controls). When you pick apps to block, iOS hands the app opaque tokens rather than names — so we never learn which apps you chose, and never see how you use your phone. The blocking happens entirely on device, inside Apple's system.

What leaves your device

Purchases

Subscriptions and the lifetime purchase are sold by Apple, not by us. Apple processes your payment; we never see your card details, your name or your Apple Account. To know whether your subscription is active, Sakina uses RevenueCat (RevenueCat, Inc., USA), which receives a randomly generated app user ID, your purchase receipt, and basic device and country information. It does not receive your name, your email or anything about your prayers. RevenueCat acts as our processor. See RevenueCat's privacy policy and Apple's.

Anonymous product analytics

Sakina sends anonymous product-interaction events — for example, that an onboarding step was completed, or that a paywall was shown — to Firebase Analytics (Google). These events carry no name, no email and no account, because the app has none, and we never set a user ID.

Advertising identifiers are switched off in the build: the app disables both the advertising ID (IDFA) and the vendor identifier (IDFV) for analytics, and turns off ad-personalisation signals. Nothing measured here can be joined to an advertising profile. Sakina shows no ads and does not track you across other companies' apps or websites.

We never send:

  • your excused-days state;
  • which apps you blocked;
  • any Qur'an text you read, or your reading position;
  • your location;
  • the intention (niyyah) you wrote during onboarding.

Firebase acts as our processor. See Firebase's privacy and security information. Nothing is sold, and nothing is shared for anyone's marketing.

Notifications

Adhan alerts and reminders are all scheduled locally by your iPhone. There is no push server, so no notification content passes through us.

This website

This site is served by Firebase Hosting (Google). Like any web server, it records requests — including IP addresses — for security and reliability.

We would like to count visits using Firebase Analytics, which sets cookies. It stays switched off until you press Allow on the notice at the bottom of the page, and you can decline with no loss of function. If you decline, no analytics cookies are set. Your choice is remembered in your browser's local storage; clear your browser data to be asked again. Using the app does not depend on any of this.

How long anything is kept

On-device data lives until you delete it in the app or delete the app — uninstalling Sakina removes all of it from your iPhone. Purchase records are kept by Apple and RevenueCat under their own retention rules, since they are needed to prove you bought what you bought. Anonymous analytics events are retained for up to 12 months.

Your rights

Under UK and EU data protection law you may request access to, correction of, or erasure of personal data we hold, object to processing, and complain to a regulator — in the UK, the Information Commissioner's Office.

In practice we hold almost nothing about you: there is no account to look up. The fastest way to erase everything the app stores is to delete the app. For purchase records, contact us and we will pass the request to RevenueCat; Apple handles its own records directly.

Children

Sakina is rated 4+ and contains nothing unsuitable for children, but it is designed for people who pray the five daily prayers and it is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.

International transfers

Firebase Analytics and Firebase Hosting are operated by Google and process data on Google's global infrastructure, including in the United States. RevenueCat processes purchase data in the United States. Both rely on the UK and EU standard contractual clauses for those transfers.

Changes

If this policy changes in a way that matters, we will update the date at the top and, for anything significant, say so in the app. Continuing to use Sakina after a change means the updated policy applies.
